What Is A Fractal?

A fractal is, in simple terms, a geometric pattern that is self similar. That is, if you zoom in on a portion of the fractal, you will find a pattern that is similar to the original image. Nature provides many natural examples of fractals, in leaves, ferns, clouds, mountains, coastlines, and several others. There are also several computer programs to generate fractals, based on mathmatical formulas. This is the basis for fractal art.

What Is Fractal Art?

Fractal art, is simply art that is based on fractal designs. In the case of this website, the art is created digitally, using the computer as a tool. An image is created with a fractal generator, and then the artist will zoom in an interesting part of the image, and apply various coloring algorithms, until a pleasing work of art is created. This site has several examples of fractal art, as well as links to other fractal art sites.
